Indigo Junction’s new Yaakiny accommodation service is now open in Midland, providing safe housing and support for young people aged 15–25.

Yaakiny (Standing Tall)

Yaakiny is Western Australia’s first purpose-built accommodation facility based on the Housing First for Youth (HF4Y) model.

The facility provides accommodation for up to 36 young people, with options ranging from supported crisis accommodation to more independent living. Together with external community-based units, Indigo Junction’s expanded youth housing service includes 44 dwellings.

Our accommodation options

Crisis and transitional supported accommodation

Young people can access accommodation with Youth Workers available on-site 24/7, providing practical assistance, guidance and individual support.

Community-based housing

We also provide community-based accommodation options that help young people develop independence and establish connections outside a supported facility.

Support for Young People

Housing is the foundation, but support extends beyond having a safe place to live.

Our Youth Workers work alongside each young person to understand their circumstances, strengths and goals. Support is flexible and tailored to individual needs and may include:

  • Developing personalised goals and housing pathways
  • Building practical independent living skills, including budgeting, cooking and cleaning
  • Accessing education, training and employment opportunities
  • Strengthening physical and mental health and wellbeing
  • Building confidence, relationships and community connections
  • Accessing specialist services and other support networks

Our Housing First for Youth approach recognises that young people need safe, stable housing as a foundation for other aspects of their lives. Accommodation is not time-limited under the model, with support focused on helping each young person establish sustainable housing and long-term stability.

Who Can Access the Service?

Our Youth Housing & Support service is available to young people aged 15–25 who are experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness.

We can also work with younger people by special arrangement with the Department of Communities.
