Safe accommodation and support

Indigo Junction provides safe, supported accommodation for women and children experiencing family and domestic violence.

Our refuge services provide a safe place to stay alongside practical support to help people establish safety, stability and pathways towards longer-term housing.

Koolkuna Women’s Refuge

Koolkuna has provided a safe place and supports to people affected by family and domestic violence in the Northeast metropolitan area since 1995. In 2022, Koolkuna merged with Indigo Junction, strengthening the services available to people experiencing family and domestic violence.

Koolkuna Women’s Refuge provides crisis accommodation and support for women and children experiencing family and domestic violence. Accommodating up to four families at a time, each family is provided with their own bedroom and bathroom. There is also a communal kitchen, dining room, children’s room and outdoor areas.

Koolkuna Women’s Refuge supports around 50 women and their children each year.

Bindi Bindi Mia Refuge

Bindi Bindi Mia is a newer refuge service providing safe, supported accommodation for women and children. The property includes five bedrooms and two bathrooms, allowing for flexible intake depending on each household’s needs. The service can accommodate women with children, single women, and pregnant women, subject to suitability.

Residents are supported through case management and support work, child advocacy services, on-site staffing across weekdays and weekends and an on-call support service.

While the refuge is not staffed 24/7, on-site support is available into the evening, with shifts currently concluding at 8:00pm.
