Indigo Junction’s Strong Fathers Program is looking for a volunteer 1-2 days per week.

Mentor Aboriginal fathers (with children 0- 12 yrs) to improve their wellbeing, increase their knowledge and confidence to reduce the likelihood of future crises.

Empower fathers to build positive relationships with their children and family.

Engage on Thursdays in the Altone area with referred Aboriginal dads with children 0-12 yrs.

Listen to dads and together identify their strengths, issues and needs. Provide ideas and strategies around self-worth

  •  Connect fathers to adult-focused services as required
  • Mentor and support dads until they feel they have the necessary tools and skills to be able to manage without assistance
  • Engage with Community organisations, government services and adult-focused services
  • Assist with the planning of Strong Fathers events.

Criteria:

  • Ability to demonstrate cultural awareness and safety
  • Adhere to confidentiality
  • Positive communication skills
  • Current driver’s license preferred (not necessary)
  • Current working with WWCC and Police clearance – will be supported to obtain these if successful
