NAIDOC 2017 – Moorditj Noyt!

NAIDOC 2017 – Moorditj Noyt!

Our local Aboriginal community knows how to put on the best celebrations! Even if the NGANGK (sun) didn’t want to come out today, KARLA (fires) were burning, the music played and the people yarned away!

The theme of NAIDOC Week 2017 is OUR LANGUAGE MATTERS, highlighting the importance of language in cultural identity. Indigo Junction got into the NOYT (spirit) with beautiful artwork and giveaways featuring NOONGAR words.

As well as food and fun, the Indigo Junction stall offered information about our Strong Fathers, financial education, adult literacy and housing services.

Cass’s famous YONGA (kangaroo) burgers were the DJOORNT (star) and our wonderful volunteers did a fantastic job preparing the burgers, painting faces and manning the Indigo Junction stall. We handed out 250 Indigo Junction backpacks containing healthy treats and giveaways.

What a dedicated team we have here at Indigo Junction and what a MOORDITJ (strong) community we work in! So proud to belong!  See more photos here: NAIDOC 2017
