Families staying with Indigo Junction benefit from a wide range of in-house and co-located support and educational opportunities. Our case managers and support workers advocate for long-term secure housing and have backgrounds in child development, childcare and family support work. They support families to develop the skills and capacity they need to move on from trauma and/or homelessness, to a more stable future.
Underpinned by the principles of Trauma Informed Care, workers build caring and supportive relationships and can assist parents with:
As well as a dedicated case manager and support workers, Indigo Junction can link families directly to accessible services such as financial counselling and education, men’s and women’s art and culture groups, parenting support and adult literacy support.
Indigo Junction’s Youth Service provides support for young people between the ages of 15 and 25. We can work with younger people by special arrangement with the Department of Communities.
Young people living in our youth crisis or transitional housing are linked to skilled, experienced youth workers who work with each young person to:
Indigo Junction also offers a one-on-one drug education program that builds knowledge and skills around how young people can reduce the risks and harm associated with drug use.
Those who are experiencing family and domestic violence can access this service to receive support in assessing their circumstances, making decisions, and planning for the future. Our team provides information to assist in understanding violence and abuse, safety planning and crisis intervention. It also provides referrals to appropriate support services.
Indigo Junction’s crisis response service acts as an early intervention and high-risk response to family and domestic violence in the local region. Working in conjunction with the WA Police and the Department for Communities: Child Protection and Family Support, our team reviews each domestic violence incident and supports the coordination of appropriate responses.
Karnany Engagement Hub is an open-door service for street present people and those directly affected by crises. It offers a safe place for clients to share their story. An integrated service hub, Karnany delivers a range of complementary services and is home to Indigo Junction’s Money Hub. Karnany also provides a base for external outreach services including AOD counselling, the Street Doctor, Centrelink and Orange Sky Laundry.
Indigo Junction’s Money Hub supports people most at risk of financial disadvantage and exclusion by providing financial counselling, financial education and emergency relief assistance. Our staff provide immediate basic needs and essential supplies in time of crisis, delivering services in a way that maintains the dignity of individuals and families. The service aims to improve financial capability by supporting people to make informed choices that address their financial difficulties and build their capacity to manage money.
Karlup is a welcoming space that hosts our community programs, including the Strong Fathers Program, and cultural activities. It is equipped with a modern kitchen, shower and laundry facilities – which are available for people in need to utilise on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursday mornings 9am-12pm. It also has several office spaces, offering a safe and calm environment for service providers to meet with people accessing Indigo Junction’s youth and family and domestic violence services.
The Homeless Engagement, Assessment Response Team (HEART) outreach model connects people who are homeless and sleeping rough to basic and immediate needs, short term case management, triage and added to the By Name List. The HEART team is co-located within the accessible, well known and culturally safe Karnany building. HEART has been highly successful in addressing the needs of rough sleepers and supporting their access to safe, affordable housing options.
