Heart and Soul at Fringe World!

Heart and Soul at Fringe World!

In late January, three participants from our Aboriginal fathers group, Strong Fathers, attended a Fringe World performance of Djuki Mala.

Djuki Mala (meaning Chooky Dancers) came all the way from Elcho Island in North East Arnhem Land. Members of the group fuse traditional and contemporary pop culture, dance and storytelling to create work that is “a marvel of timing, comedy and clowning with a hefty dose of heart and soul”.

Jon, our Strong Fathers worker, organised the outing and provided transport. He reports that the men had an “awesome” time and couldn’t stop laughing throughout the show! Afterwards, the men got to meet the performers. For our Strong Fathers, this was an out-of-the-ordinary cultural experience; a special occasion that will stay with them for a long time to come.

Indigo Junction would like to thank the team from Djuki Mala who provided complimentary tickets to the show for our crew.
